A Face Cut is when an offensive player makes a cut that puts the player between the basketball and their defender. This cut is most often made going towards the basket and if a catch is made by a player who has face cut his defender it puts the defender in a trail position which will usually end up in an easy shot attempt or a foul.

The term Face Cut comes from the defender crossing the line of vision (or "face") of the defense.
